The kids grandmother gave the kid the cleats to wear, so he did in honor of her and other survivors. The coach just sounds like a *****, he was ****ed about the whole pink thing from the beginning when he was *****ing about it at halftime of that game. Sounds like a masculinity problem he has, the kid had wore plenty of other cleats and nothing was said so there obviously wasn't some policy. He just decided to be some douche against a kid doing nothing wrong and supporting an important cause. How anyone could defend this guy or what he did is beyond me.
I dont agree with this situation either, provided the article is accurate in what has happened. I understand if the team has a uniform policy (matching everything) or something like that, but not over just pink shoes alone as an issue.

Why try to make a statement at practice? The coach let him wear them during the game. The coach didn't make a fuss from what I got. The coach asked him to take them off. He didn't listen to the coach and he got disciplined. Plenty of other ways the kid could have showed support for breast cancer if he really wanted to. Disobeying his coach isn't that great of a way.

But there obviously was not, because the article stated he wore tons of different cleats. The issue only became a problem when he wore pink, "girly colored" cleats. If the kid had not been allowed to wear different cleats, I have no problem with it. But the coach let him wear different cleats before.
Let me ask you this; why was it okay for him to wear all sorts of different cleats during games but not pink cleats during practice?

The coach was probably trying to be OK. He let him wear them during the game but when is enough enough? Sound like the kid was just trying to push things. Lets see how outlandish I can get? I wonder if he even ran it by the coach in the first place would that have hurt? Why the hell does the kid need so many cleats anyway? I remember 1 pair tickled us to death.

He didnt disobeying anything until he was told to take them off.
It sounds like to me that the kid was just wearing different cleats, like he did all year long, and the coach had a problem because they were pink.
It does not matter why he had so many cleats or anything else, thats irrelevant.
what matters is the facts;
the fact that the coach had no problems at all with the kid wearing different cleats every week until the kid wore pink ones. there was obviously no uniform policy, because he had been allowed to wear different cleats before.
the fact that the kid was kicked off the team for wearing those cleats. the fact that the cleats were given to him for a great reason and a good cause.
all that matters is that the coach did not have a problem with the kid wearing different colored cleats until they were pink. ergo, the pink cleats were singled out for a reason.

He was kicked off for wearing them after a coach asked him to remove them. That is why he is kicked off. You all seem to forget the coach let him wear them during the game? No pat on the back for old coach for doing that? So is the coach just suppose to let everyone do their thing. Hell why even have a coach if the kids don't need to listen?
Even if it was just the pink cleats. What coach would want a kid on the field looking like a pansy? If he would have wanted that he would have incorporated pink into the teams colors. I'm sure the other cleats probably didn't stand out as much as the pink one.
So let me ask you this. Why couldnt the kid just say OK coach I will change them and thanks for letting me wear them during the game. I'm sure that would meant a lot to my grandmother.
The more I think about it the kid sound liek an ungrateful little ***** with a closet full of cleats when plenty of other kids would love to have one pair of.

there it is. nothing to do with the real principle, its because pink is a "pansy" color and anybody who wears pink looks like a pansy. I would LOVE for you to tell some of the big NFL players, who wore pink proudly during October for breast cancer awareness that pink makes you look like a "pansy"
just admit it, you are only defending the coach because the cleats were pink. If the cleats were bring yellow, this would be a non-issue.
it does not matter what it "sounds like" or what you think went on, the facts are all that matters.
the kid sounds like a kid trying to do right by his grandma, who gave him the cleats to wear, and was mad because the coach let him wear tons of different cleats but jumped his **** because he was wearing the pink cleats given to him by his cancer-survivor grandmother.
but if we go that way, what it sounds like to me is a coach that has problems with his masculinity and was mad because the kid wore "pansy, sissy girlie" colors.
